MISSISSIPPI

Burning death still unsolved

With severe burns all over her body, Jessica Chambers spoke to firefighters on a rural Mississippi road, perhaps giving them clues about who set her on fire and ultimately caused her death from thermal injuries.

Authorities in Mississippi were working Thursday to tie together strings of evidence to determine who doused the 19-year-old woman with a flammable liquid and set her on fire Saturday.

Jay Hale, an assistant district attorney who handles cases in Panola County, confirmed that Chambers spoke to emergency responders but said he could not discuss what she said before she was taken to a hospital, where she died. - AP
