Reports: Boston victims 'collateral damage'

Several news organizations are reporting that the surviving suspect of the Boston Marathon twin bombings scrawled on the wall of a boat he was shot and bleeding in before his capture that the victims were were "collateral damage" in retaliation for U.S. actions abroad.

Both CBS and CNN are reporting on details of the note this morning reportedly written by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who used a pen found inside the boat.

CBS News correspondent John Miller said sources told him the note explained that the bombings were retribution for U.S. actions against Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan. The boat was parked in a backyard in Watertown, Mass. when a fleeing Dzhokhar Tsarnaev used it to hide from chasing law enforcement personnel.

Both CBS and CNN said Tsarnaev wrote that the victims were "collateral damage" since an attack against one Muslim is an attack against all of them.

Three people were killed and more than 260 were wounded as a result of the blasts. The second suspect,  Tamerlan  died during a shootout with police.

Dzhokhar is currently held at Federal Medical Center Devens where he is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. He is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and malicious destruction of property causing death.
