2 dead in South Jersey crash

Two people were killed when a car hit a pole and burst into flames Monday afternoon in Burlington County, authorities said.

The accident occurred around noon at Flyatt and Caranza Roads in Shamong Township, the New Jersey State Police reported. A nearby school was evacuated as a precaution because of the vehicle fire.

The two victims, who were not identified, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The state police offered no further details.
