Marlton man arrested in death of girlfriend's baby

A Marlton man was arrested yesterday on charges of killing his girlfriend's 17-month-old son last month. Meredith Rogers, 29, is charged with murder in the death of Daniel Cruz Jr., who died Nov. 25.

Rogers had been watching the child the night of Nov. 24 in the boy's mother's Palmyra home, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Rogers woke Daniel's mother, Cynthia Diamond, shortly after midnight and told her that Daniel was not breathing, authorities said. They called 911, and the boy was taken to Kennedy Memorial Hospitals-University Medical Center in Cherry Hill and then to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. He died shortly after 11 a.m., and an autopsy found that his death was caused by traumatic brain injury.

If convicted, Rogers could face life in prison. He is being held at the Burlington County jail with bail set at $500,000. A court appearance is scheduled for today.
