The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia yesterday responded to a suit filed in Delaware alleging that a child was abused by a priest in the archdiocese. The archdiocese said the priest named in the suit, the Rev. Gerald Dunne, had denied the accusation but had been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Church officials say parishioners at Resurrection of Our Lord Parish in Northeast Philadelphia, where Dunne was in residence, were informed of the allegations over the weekend, following the filing of a lawsuit last week in Delaware. Dunne has left the parish and will be living at an Oblate residence outside of the Archdiocese.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit accuses Dunne, a member of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, of sexually abusing him some 30 years ago at Salesianum High School in Wilmington. - AP
