A Deptford woman has been indicted on charges of child abuse after police found her 2-year-old daughter alone and crying outside her house around 2:30 a.m. March 10.
A neighbor who had heard the child's wails alerted police. When officers arrived, no one answered at the girl's house on Normandy Avenue. Police arrested the mother, Nicole D. Dixon, 26, when she returned about an hour later.
Police also charged Dixon with possession of about 4 ounces of marijuana after they discovered the drug in the child's stroller, according to Bernie Weisenfeld, spokesman for the Gloucester County prosecutor. Dixon was released on $2,500 bail. - Jan Hefler
