A former Drexel University professor will serve seven years of probation after pleading guilty yesterday to possessing child pornography, court officials said.

Mark Manion, 51, was a member of the English and philosophy faculty specializing in professional ethics and the philosophy of technology when he was arrested Sept. 14. Manion, a coauthor of Minding the Machines: Preventing Technological Disasters, was charged with child pornography, unlawful use of a computer, and criminal use of a communication facility and related counts. He resigned shortly after his arrest.

Common Pleas Court Judge Karen Shreeves-Johns scheduled formal sentencing for April 14. Manion's attorney, Patrick Artur, had no comment. - Sam Wood
