Man shot to death sitting in vehicle in Camden

A man was fatally shot Wednesday night while sitting in a vehicle in the 2000 block of South Eighth Street in Camden, authorities said yesterday.

A man was fatally shot Wednesday night while sitting in a vehicle in the 2000 block of South Eighth Street in Camden, authorities said yesterday.

Jamal Burgess, 33, of Camden, was pronounced dead at Cooper University Hospital, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. Samad Land, 19, and his cousin Martell Land, 18, both of Camden, were wounded in the shooting, which occurred around 8 p.m. Samad Land was in critical condition yesterday morning at Cooper, where Martell Land was treated and released.

Authorities said that the cousins, also shot on Eighth Street, had run to a corner of Ferry Avenue and Kossuth Street, where Martell Land called 911. The Lands knew Burgess, a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office said.
