A Westville man was sentenced yesterday to nearly 14 years in federal prison for four bank robberies in Camden and Gloucester Counties. Phillip Jones, 43, also was ordered to pay more than $8,200 in restitution and remain in a supervision program for three years after his release.

On July 8, Jones pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler in Camden, admitting that in less than three weeks he had robbed four banks. He gave tellers notes saying he had a gun, and in one robbery, officials said, he showed the butt of a handgun tucked into his waistband.

Jones was convicted of robbing about $4,600 from St. Edmonds Savings Bank in Deptford on April 25, about $1,130 from Sun National Bank in Gloucester Township on May 6, about $300 from TD Bank in Glassboro on May 11, and about $2,233 from TD Bank in Woodbury on May 13.

Jones was arrested May 15 as he left his apartment. Authorities said police had received a tip. At the arrest, police recovered $1,800 and a replica pistol. - Barbara Boyer
