ALLENTOWN - A jury has been selected in the civil trial of Charles Cullen, 47, the nurse who admitted killing 29 people in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Testimony is scheduled to begin today in the wrongful-death suit. The families of eight former patients are suing Cullen, formerly of Bethlehem, Pa., claiming he was involved in their deaths. Cullen has not been charged in the deaths of any of the patients.

A Lehigh County jury will decide what amount, if any, Cullen owes to the families. He was not in court yesterday and is declining to participate in the trial.

Cullen is serving a life sentence in New Jersey after pleading guilty to killing 29 people and trying to kill six others. He told investigators that he might have killed as many as 40 patients. - AP
