The would-be robber of a Camden home was killed by his own gun after he dropped his weapon during a struggle early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Jamil Burks, 23, of Camden, was pronounced dead inside a home on the 800 block of Haddon Avenue.
Officials said it appeared that Burks' gun fell during a struggle with Stacy Hill, 43, and another male resident. Hill allegedly picked up the weapon and repeatedly shot Burks, authorities said. Afterward, Hill allegedly disposed of the gun in Philadelphia, where authorities were still looking for it Monday.
Because he left the scene with the gun, Hill is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and is being held in the Camden County Jail, said Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. The unnamed resident has not been charged. - Barbara Boyer
