A suspected car thief who police said tried to run down a state trooper at a Bensalem train station was captured Monday after a four-hour manhunt.
Raymond D. Doman, 39, of Philadelphia, was charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault and other offenses. State police said Trooper Joseph K. Schmidt was investigating a series of break-ins at the Cornwell Heights Park and Ride about 9:30 a.m. when he spotted a man breaking into a car.
As Schmidt approached, the man jumped into a white Volkswagen sedan. The trooper ran to the car and tried to snatch the keys from the ignition. The man grabbed at Schmidt's weapon and tried to drive away. Schmidt fired three rounds. None of the shots struck the driver, state police said. The VW sped east on Station Avenue and crashed a half-mile away. The man fled into a wooded area near Pen Ryn Mansion in Bensalem, where police found him about 1:30 p.m.
