Fire in the Pinelands burns 350 acres

A forest fire in a swampy section of the New Jersey Pinelands had burned 350 acres by Monday evening.

Bert Plante, a spokesman for the state Forest Fire Service, said the blaze broke out Monday in Bass River Township.

The fire forced the evacuation of Bass River State Forest, and the flames could jeopardize the park office, Plante said. He said he did not know how many people were evacuated from the park.    - Staff and wire reports
