Wednesday's scheduled preliminary hearing for Nasuil Martinez, 20, the Kensington man charged with the Dec. 21 killing of another Kensington man over an alleged drug debt, was postponed to July 27 in Municipal Court.
Carlos Fernandez, 38, was shot and killed the night before Martinez fired at five officers trying to arrest him during a standoff in the basement of his girlfriend's house in Summerdale. Martinez was shot and wounded, and police say two of his shots hit two officers. One officer was saved when his helmet deflected the bullet; the other was saved by his armored vest.
Martinez was charged in the Fernandez murder on May 16, while in custody awaiting trial on attempted-murder charges in the Summerdale incident, and in the shooting and wounding of another officer after a Dec. 10 foot chase in Kensington. - Joseph A. Slobodzian
