HERE'S a rundown on how easy (or hard) it is for homegrown medical-marijuana producers in states that allow it around the country:

* 14 of the 16 states with medical-marijuana laws allow for some home cultivation. It's not allowed in Delaware and won't be allowed in New Jersey. A special license is required in New Mexico.

* For most states, this means that a person can have a certain number of mature and immature plants. Each state also has limits on the amount of usable marijuana a person may possess.

* In New Jersey, patients will have to be certified as having a debilitating medical condition and must register. Only approved alternative-treatment centers will be able to dispense medical marijuana. Patients who share, give away or sell their medical marijuana are subject to arrest and criminal prosecution.
