Pa. Senate confirms Houstoun as SRC member

The state Senate confirmed Feather O. Houstoun as a member of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission on Monday.

The state Senate confirmed Feather O. Houstoun as a member of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission on Monday.

Houstoun, the former William Penn Foundation chief and Pennsylvania welfare secretary, is expected to attend the SRC meeting scheduled for Friday. It will be the first time since early this year that the SRC will have its full five members. David F. Girard-diCarlo resigned in February, then Robert L. Archie Jr. and Johnny Irizarry followed in September.

Houstoun joins Joseph Dworetzky and new members Wendell Pritchett, Lorene Cary, and Pedro Ramos, the chairman.

In a statement, Mayor Nutter said, "Feather Houstoun is one of the most accomplished public servants in the commonwealth, and I am very excited that she will be employing her considerable talents on behalf of the schoolchildren of our great city." - Kristen A. Graham
