Man fatally shot by officer in apartment

A police officer fatally shot a man Thursday who authorities say was barricaded in a relative's Bellmawr apartment.

Police from Bellmawr and Brooklawn responded to several 911 hang-up calls from the Bellmawr Manor Apartments on Kings Highway around 10:20 p.m. and found Michael Wood, 37, barricaded in an apartment where he had been staying. When they entered the apartment, they found Wood holding a knife, officials said.

An officer from Brooklawn shot him twice, killing him. The officer, whose name has not been made public, has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation continues. - Staff reports
