EVESHAM The American Council of Teachers of Russian has presented Cherokee High School senior Robert Gillin with its Russian Scholar Laureate award for 2014.

Gillin is one of only 30 students of Russian nationwide to receive the award, which includes a certificate and pin from the council and notice in its newsletter.

Cherokee is a part of the Lenape Regional High School District, which serves 7,000 students from eight municipalities in Burlington County.

In April, Cherokee will offer the school's first advanced placement language exam in Russian. Students will take their oral proficiency test via telephone with a professor of Russian in Washington.
