Sketch released of unidentified man washed ashore

Authorities have released a sketch in an effort to identify a man whose body washed ashore along the New Jersey coast more than a year ago.

Authorities have released a sketch in an effort to identify a man whose body washed ashore along the New Jersey coast more than a year ago.

The body was found at the Gateway Marina in Highlands on Dec. 30, 2013, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said his identity remains a mystery, as investigators found no matches for his DNA in the FBI database known as CODIS, and no descriptions from missing-persons reports appear to match the man.

Officials this week began distributing a composite sketch of what the man - believed to be a white male in his 20s - may have looked like at the time of his death.

A forensic analysis determined that he is not of American Indian, Japanese, Chinese or Guatemalan descent, prosecutors said.

No further descriptive details were available.

Anyone who has information or thinks the person in the sketch appears familiar should call prosecutors at 1-800-533-7443 or state police at 609-882-2000, ext. 2554.
