N.J. firefighter charged with stealing from union accounts

A Margate firefighter was charged Tuesday with theft of more than $75,000 from the bank accounts of the New Jersey Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association Local 41, Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain said.

A Margate firefighter was charged Tuesday with theft of more than $75,000 from the bank accounts of the New Jersey Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association Local 41, Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain said.

Lt. Michael C. Palmer, 36, of Somers Point, allegedly used his position as secretary/treasurer of the association to take funds for his personal use, McClain said. Palmer was suspended from his job pending the outcome of the investigation.
