Christie nominates trustee for Rowan

GLASSBORO Gov. Christie has nominated Barbara Chamberlain, a nurse, teacher, and researcher, to the Rowan University board of trustees.

Chamberlain is the widow of Mark M. Chamberlain, who was president of what is now Rowan from 1969 to 1984, and continued teaching chemistry as a professor there until June 2000. He died in March 2014.

Barbara Chamberlain, of Monroe Township, has been president of the New Jersey State Nurses' Association, an officer in the Air Force, and a teacher and researcher. She has been a chapter president of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and a member of the board of directors of the Organization of Nurse Executives of New Jersey.

She received an associate's degree from what is now Rowan College at Gloucester County and a bachelor's degree from Rowan. Her other degrees include a bachelor's degree from what is now Stockton University, a master's from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. from Widener University.

Her nomination is subject to state Senate confirmation. - Jonathan Lai
