A female motorist was killed early Saturday after her car slammed into a parked tractor-trailer on the southbound shoulder of Interstate 295 in Cherry Hill, police said.

New Jersey State Police identified the victim as Tahera Clark-Brooks, 21, of Somerdale, in Camden County.

About 4:20 a.m., she was driving a Nissan Maxima on I-295 when she entered the shoulder and collided with the back of a parked tractor-trailer at milepost 34.4, said New Jersey State Police spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez.

Clark-Brooks suffered a serious head injury and was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was pronounced dead later in the morning, Goez said. Police do not know why she veered into the shoulder. She was the only person in the car.

The male driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, Goez said.
