Authorities are investigating the death of a man fatally shot overnight in Camden.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said police were called to the 1500 block of South Seventh Street shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday following a report of gunshots.
Wayne Sewell, 30, was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where the Camden resident was pronounced dead at 1:19 a.m., prosecutors said.
No arrests were made and no descriptions of any alleged attackers were available.
The slaying follows a bloody start to May.
Three other people have been shot to death in the city this month, including Jonathan Vasquez, 22, killed outside a funeral home where he was attending a service for his grandmother. Victor Rodriguez, 31, of Camden, was charged as an accomplice in the shooting.
As of Wednesday, 17 people have been killed in Camden this year, including Tia Walker, 53, who was struck by a car whose driver fled from police on April 25.
At this time last year, the city had had nine homicides.
Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said last week that much of the violence stems from vendettas or "perceived slights" between individuals.
Those killed have ranged in age from 13 to 55. Among them are Iris Sanchez, 38, who was fatally shot April 1 by her son Pedro Mercado, 22, after the two argued about sharing space in a cramped second-floor bedroom.
The first and youngest person killed this year was Nate Plummer Jr., 13, who authorities said was gunned down by a 17-year-old girl near his grandmother's East Camden home Jan. 7.
At his funeral that month, Mayor Dana L. Redd implored the public to "put our guns down."
