62 toy guns confiscated in Atlantic City

Officers with the Tourism District Unit about 10:45 a.m. Monday noticed a sign outside a store in the 1300 block of the Boardwalk advertising the sale of BB guns inside.

Atlantic City police officers confiscated 62 realistic-looking toy guns from a Boardwalk shop, police said Tuesday.

About 10:45 a.m. Monday, officers with the Tourism District Unit inspected the toy guns being sold in a store in the 1300 block of the Boardwalk and noted that they looked like real firearms except for orange tips on the end of the barrels. All the guns were confiscated under a city ordinance passed in 2014 prohibiting the sale of imitation or toy firearms.

The owner of the store, Naman Rafi, was provided with a copy of the city ordinance for reference by police.

Police said the orange tips on toy guns are easily removable, making them dangerous.
