Driver charged in fatal Voorhees crash

A Burlington County man has been charged with using a cell phone while driving and other offenses for a crash last month that left one woman dead and her daughter in critical condition.

Voorhees Township police said today that 47-year-old Samuel Distefano, of Tabernacle, is facing charges in the April 27 accident at the intersection of Evesham and Kresson raods.

Police said Distefano struck 63-year-old Serafina Fel and her daughter, 38-year-old Anna Veksler, with his 1990 Ford Ranger pickup truck as they were trying to cross Evesham Road.

Fel died from her injuries while Veksler was hospitalized in critical condition.

Distefano has been charged with reckless driving, use of a wireless phone in a motor vehicle and failing to wear a seatbelt, police said.

He faces a Wednesday court hearing.
