Gunshots from shooting range prompt lockout at N.J. school
Officials at Erial Elementary School, in Sicklerville, put into place emergency lockout procedures after receiving a report of gunshots, later found to have come from a nearby shooting range.
Police initiated an emergency lockout at a South Jersey grade school Friday afternoon after receiving a report of gunshots, later found to have come from a nearby shooting range.
A neighbor of Erial Elementary School, in Sicklerville, reported hearing gunshots along a wooded area near the school grounds around 4 p.m., according to a news release from the Gloucester Township Police Department.
Police and school staff put into place lockout procedures as a precaution, prompting officers to respond and secure the area.
A large search quickly determined the gunshots were coming from a nearby shooting range and posed no danger to residents or students, police said.
