Marching band director charged with sexual assault of student

The director of a South Jersey high school marching band, charged with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old student,  surrendered himself to police this morning,

Jason Koenig, 26, was employed by Hammonton High School where he worked as an aide and the band director. The alleged assaults occurred in Nov. and Dec. 2013 while he had supervisory and disciplinary power over the alleged victim, said acting Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain.

In addition to sexual assault, authorities charged Koenig today with official misconduct, criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. Koenig was being held on $200,000 and ordered to remain in the state of New Jersey and surrender his passport.
