A Margate woman has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder for allegedly beating her boyfriend to death more than eight years ago inside the couple's Egg Harbor Township condo.
Eileen Leone, 43, was arrested Tuesday night following a lengthy investigation by the Major Crimes Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Leone is accused of bludgeoning her boyfriend, Darius Smith, on June 29, 2006 inside the Heathercroft condominium complex, where the couple lived with their 4-year-old child.
Prosecutors said Leone placed a call to 911 shortly before 9:30 p.m. Responding officers from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department found Smith, then 32, in the home's living room, suffering from head injuries.
Smith died hours later at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. An autopsy revealed his cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Leone is imprisoned at the Atlantic County Jail in lieu of $750,000 cash bail. If convicted, she faces a possible state prison term of 30 years to life.
