Memorial service set for ex-transportation chief Jamie Fox

A public memorial service for former New Jersey Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox has been set for 3 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Grounds for Sculpture Museum, 80 Sculptors Way, Hamilton, N.J., according to organizers.

Mr. Fox, 62, of Lambertville, N.J., died Monday, Feb. 20 of heart failure after battling kidney disease for three years.  Funeral services were private.

Mr. Fox, a Democrat, most recently worked as transportation commissioner for Republican Gov. Christie for one year, leaving  in 2015. In a statement, Christie called Mr. Fox a "fighter" for worthy causes and a friend.

Mr. Fox earlier served as a transportation commissioner and chief of staff for former  Gov. Jim McGreevey, a Democrat. He was lauded by colleagues for fixing New Jersey's E-ZPass system during that time.  He also played a role in Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, overseeing the candidate's Florida operation for two months, which, according to Eric Shuffler, a close colleague and friend who has helped to organize the memorial service, was  one of Mr. Fox's proudest accomplishments.

Contributions may be sent to the  James P. Fox Memorial Fund Inc., c/o River Crossing Strategy Group/Eric Shuffler, 128 W. State St., Trenton, N.J. 08608.
