A dispute over cats resulted in a man being stabbed Tuesday in Bridgeton, N.J., police said.

The victim and a friend were standing on Marion Street shortly before 5 p.m., when an unknown man approached, according to a news release from Bridgeton police.

The victim and the man "then got into an argument about cats," after which the man left for a short time, police said. He allegedly returned with a knife and stabbed the victim around his left ear.

Investigators didn't elaborate further on the nature of the initial argument.

The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered a minor wound, police said. No arrest was reported, and the case remained under investigation Wednesday.
