Students, 12, accused of selling sleeping pills at Burlco school

Two students at a Burlington County middle school are facing charges for allegedly selling sleeping pills to their classmates.

Riverside police said officers received a report earlier this week that juveniles were seen passing out pills in the cafeteria at Riverside Middle School.

One 12-year-old student stole Ambien pills that had been prescribed to a family member and brought them to school, police said. That student and at least one other 12-year-old classmate tried to sell the sleep-aid drugs for $10 each, authorities said.

The students' names weren't released because they are juveniles.

Officials said they didn't know exactly how many pills were distributed.

The two students are being charged with distributing a controlled substance at a school and other offenses.

Any parents of children who may have received the pills are asked to call Riverside police at 856-461-8820.
