Twin siblings have been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run over the weekend in Paulsboro, N.J., officials announced Tuesday.

Complaints charging Robert Springer and Jessica Springer, both 25 and of Sewell, were signed Monday evening.

Robert Springer was allegedly behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Malibu that twice struck Eddie Lee Warthen, 30, around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on East Madison Street.

A nearby resident reported the incident, and Warthen was rushed to Cooper Medical Center, where he soon died. An autopsy revealed his death resulted from traumatic injury, according to prosecutors.

Investigators initially said they believed Warthen was intentionally mowed down.

Robert Springer, who is unemployed, is charged with murder and tampering with evidence. He also faces weapons offenses for allegedly possessing a handgun unlawfully.

Jessica Springer, who prosecutors said works as a dancer at bachelor parties, is charged with tampering with evidence and hindering.

Robert Springer was jailed on $500,000 bail, while his sister was held on $10,000 bail.

The car believed to be involved in the hit-and-run and the discarded weapon allegedly belonging to Robert Springer were both recovered, officials said.
