Woman, 68, dies in Gloucester County house fire

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. in the 1700 block of Congress Drive in Washington Township, said Bernie Weisenfeld, spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. It was placed under control after an hour.

A 68-year-old woman was fatally injured in a house fire Tuesday in Gloucester County, officials said.

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. in the 1700 block of Congress Drive in Washington Township, said Bernie Weisenfeld, spokesman for the Gloucester Coun ty Prosecutor's Office. It was placed under control after an hour.

Neighbors removed Carol Nicosia from her house and she was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m..

Nicosia was retired and her husband, William, was not home at the time, Weisenfeld said.

The cause of her death is pending an autopsy. The fire, which was still under investigation, appeared to be accidental, Weisenfeld said.
