Ex-Montco soccer club officer accused of theft
A Montgomery County soccer volunteer has been accused of stealing more than $73,700 from the league in which her son played.
MaryAnn Grant, 36, was an officer for four years with the Valley Soccer Club in Montgomery Township, and declined to run for reelection as treasurer in 2007, according to the club's records.
After a new treasurer took office, an audit raised questions about how club finances had been handled. Authorities later uncovered "over $73,704.63 worth of unauthorized automatic teller machine withdrawals, Internet transactions and [personal] check purchases," Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said in a statement issued yesterday.
Among the taken funds, according to Ferman: $4,016 in ATM withdrawals while Grant and her husband vacationed in Kissimmee, Fla. Grant's bail was set at $50,000 Monday, and she is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 24. She does not yet have a lawyer, according to county prosecutors. - Derrick Nunnally
