Phila. man fatally shot by robber in Nicetown

A struggle during a robbery in the city's Nicetown section resulted in the death of an East Mount Airy man who was shot at least three times by his assailant, police said yesterday.

The robber confronted Kareem McCoy, 27, about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at 15th and Pike Streets, said Officer Jillian Russell of the Public Affairs Unit. McCoy ended up with gunshot wounds in the head, right hand and leg, Russell said.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about two hours later, Russell said.

Authorities were investigating the shooting and released few other details.
