A 21-year-old Trevose man drowned yesterday after swinging by a rope and dropping into the Neshaminy Creek about 16 miles north of Philadelphia, police said.
Bucks County police, Middletown Township police, and the Coast Guard searched the water by boat for almost three hours before recovering the man's body about 7 p.m. The Coast Guard also dispatched a helicopter from its station in Atlantic City.
Witnesses said that swinging from ropes and then jumping into the water was a common practice along that stretch of the creek.
The man's name was not released pending notification of his family. An autopsy was expected to be completed today.
