Elderly woman's body found near her home

An 82-year-old woman who wandered away from a Northeast Philadelphia nursing home has been found dead about two blocks from her home, police said.

May Short, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and dementia, disappeared Dec. 1 from the Oakwood Residence on Red Lion Road. A five-day police manhunt came to a close Saturday when a volunteer search and rescue squad from Montgomery County found her body at 2:45 p.m. in a wooded area near the 10000 block of Roosevelt Boulevard.

The cause of death was hypothermia, said Jeff Moran, spokesman for the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office.
