Six guilty in illicit A.C. sports betting ring

Six more defendants accused of taking part in an illegal multimillion-dollar sports betting ring that operated out of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa have pleaded guilty.

On Thursday, Joseph and Frank Baldino, William DePena, Dominic Grande and Bernard Malseed, all of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to promoting gambling for referring betters to the ring. A New Jersey man, Russell Brown of Egg Harbor Township, also pleaded guilty to the same charge.

The men could get nearly a year in jail.

The ring, which operated out of a poker room at the Borgata for 20 months, was broken up in November 2007. Authorities say the casino was not involved.
