Part of Erdenheim Farm blocked from development

The 98-acre Angus Tract of Erdenheim Farm in Montgomery County is now blocked from development by a three-government conservation easement held by Montgomery County, Whitemarsh Township and the Colonial School District, Montgomery County officials said yesterday.

The $13.5 million purchase, using public and private funds, preserves the tract of open land along the south side of Flourtown Road. Montgomery County Commissioners Chairman James R. Matthews said the purchase had been a county ambition for five years or more and puts the county two-thirds of the way toward preservation of the entire farm.

"For eastern Montgomery County, Erdenheim Farm is a crown jewel," Matthews said, "and as far as remaining open space, I mean, once you get outside some golf courses and our parks, there's just very little other open space."
