Berwyn man killed in crash on Route 252

A 53-year-old Berwyn man was killed Monday night when he lost control of his car on Route 252 in Newtown Square.

Nathan Phipps of Farragut Road was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Phipps was driving north in a black Nissan Altima around 7:20 p.m. near Saw Mill Road when the car crossed three lanes of traffic into the southbound lane, climbed an embankment, slid on its passenger side, and struck a utility pole, police said. The road was dry at the time. Police suspect that speed was a factor.
