Two men, one a retired officer, killed in gunfight

A retired Philadelphia police officer and another man were killed after an exchange of gunfire Sunday afternoon in North Philadelphia.

Homicide detectives said Ernest Miller, 41, a former police officer, was pronounced dead at his residence in the 2600 block of West Oakdale Street.

Police declined to reveal the identity of the other man, who was also pronounced dead at the scene, and other circumstances of the shootings, which occurred shortly after 4 p.m. The matter is under investigation, police said.
