Boxing great Joe Frazier's step-grandson was shot and killed early yesterday while working security at a North Philadelphia Bar, police said.

Peter Lyde Jr., 25, was working at Pleasures Bar, in the 2100 block of Ridge Avenue, when an argument broke out between two male patrons at about 1:18 a.m. One of the patrons pulled a gun and began firing, striking Lyde in the chest, police said. Lyde was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests had been made yesterday and the investigation was continuing, police said.

Lyde, of the 4000 block of Old York Road, is the son of Peter Lyde Sr., who is married to Joe Frazier's daughter, Municipal Court Judge Jacqui Frazier-Lyde. A family spokeswoman said Frazier-Lyde had helped raise Lyde since he was a child.

Lyde's family asked that condolences be sent to Hawkins Funeral Home 6828 Old York Rd. Philadelphia, Pa., 19126.
