Philadelphia police last night were looking for the drivers of two vehicles who were apparently racing each other when one of the cars struck and killed a pedestrian early yesterday morning on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Brenda Rodriguez, 36, was hit by a gold or silver Pontiac Bonneville or Oldsmobile as she tried to cross the outer northbound lanes at Rising Sun Avenue shortly after midnight, police said.

Rodriguez had just gotten some Chinese takeout that she was carrying at the time, police said. The sedan that struck the woman was speeding alongside a second vehicle, described as a white Dodge Neon with a blue stripe along its side.

Investigators shut down the northbound outer lanes for at least two hours after the accident. Police are asking anyone seeing a vehicle matching either description to contact investigators at 215-685-3180. - Larry King
