Germantown Avenue will be closed between Coulter Street and Church Lane in Philadelphia's Germantown section beginning Monday as part of the $9.2 million improvement project on the avenue, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said. Construction on this part of the roadway is expected to last until late August.

Motorists will be detoured onto Seymour Street, Wayne Avenue, and Maplewood Avenue.

In conjunction with the new road closure, PennDot said, the newly rebuilt section of Germantown Avenue between Ashmead Street and Queen Lane, which has been closed for reconstruction since March 30, will be reopened. Later this month, PennDot also plans to close Germantown Avenue between High Street and Walnut Street for reconstruction.

Block-by-block closures of the avenue will be in place through late November for construction. - Inquirer staff
