4 hurt in two shootings in West Philadelphia

Two apparently unrelated shootings late Thursday and early yesterday in West Philadelphia left four men with serious wounds, police said.

The first shooting was at 11:10 p.m. Thursday in the 4900 block of Olive Street. Police said several gunmen opened fire on two men sitting on a curb, wounding a 24-year-old in the chest, an arm and a leg, and a 45-year-old in the back as he attempted to run away. Both men were listed in guarded condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The second shooting was about 1:30 a.m. yesterday outside the Commodore Lounge, 5507 Baltimore Ave. Police said a gunman walked up and shot a 32-year-old man twice in the legs, then shot a 29-year-old man in a knee, a hip, the legs, an arm and the neck. The two were also taken to the hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. - Wallace McKelvey
