KIRKWOOD, N.Y. - Two northeastern Pennsylvania men accused of robbing an Upstate New York gas station might have gotten away had they remembered to fuel up.
Lonnie Meckwood, 29, of Carbondale, and Phillip Weeks, 51, of Tunkhannock, were arrested after their 1995 Saturn ran out of gas about a mile from the station late Monday, state police said yesterday. "If they don't run out of gas, they're long gone," Investigator Fred Goodall said.
Meckwood and Weeks were arraigned on first-degree robbery charges and held without bail in the Broome County Jail. Troopers said the men used a kitchen knife to steal an undisclosed amount of cash from a clerk at a convenience store near the Pennsylvania border. - AP
