A 14-month-old Camden boy was in critical condition yesterday afternoon after being stabbed in the head, authorities said.
Police said they were called about 3 a.m. yesterday to the 3200 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue, where an argument between the toddler's mother and her boyfriend had become violent. The woman was holding her son when Ponciano Garcia lunged at her with a knife, striking the child, officials said.
The boy, whose name was not released, underwent surgery at Cooper University Hospital for a life-threatening injury. Police found Garcia, 25, hiding in a neighbor's home. He was being held on $1 million bail after being charged with attempted murder and weapons counts. Two other people were arrested for hindering Garcia's apprehension. - Sam Wood
