A 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg by an officer after allegedly lunging at police with a knife in Northeast Philadelphia last night, a department spokesman said.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Eighth District officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Grant Avenue, where they encountered a teenage boy with a knife, said Lt. Frank Vanore.

"They ordered the male to drop the knife many times. He refused, and he lunged at them," Vanore said. One of the officers fired, striking the boy in the thigh.

He was taken to Aria Health-Frankford Campus and was reported in stable condition. - Robert Moran
