Ambler man charged with 3d-degree murder in crash

An 18-year-old Ambler man was charged yesterday with third-degree murder in connection with a fatal car crash Tuesday in Delaware County.

An 18-year-old Ambler man was charged yesterday with third-degree murder in connection with a fatal car crash Tuesday in Delaware County.

Authorities said Johnathan Trueheart was speeding north on southbound Route 352 when he drove his Ford Explorer though a red light at Knowlton Road in Middletown Township. He collided with a Honda Accord driven by Joseph Sherlock, 33, of Upper Providence, with such force that the Accord broke in two. Sherlock was declared dead at the scene.

Trueheart was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland. Drivers of two other cars in the pileup and a passenger also were hurt; their injuries were not life-threatening, police said Tuesday.

Trueheart also faces charges including aggravated assault, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless endangerment. Bail was denied, according to court documents. - Mari A. Schaefer
