A former Philadelphia pharmacist has been convicted of filling fake prescriptions for drug dealers, according to the FBI and federal prosecutors.
Lawrence Young, 68, now of Cherry Hill, was found guilty Thursday in a jury trial. Prosecutors contended that at his business, Young's Pharmacy at 13th and South Streets, he filled prescriptions for Percocet, Xanax, codeine and other pharmaceuticals for people who obtained fraudulent prescriptions from corrupt doctors, including Joseph Borkson of Center City. Borkson was convicted in a trial last year.
Young sold the drugs between 2001 and 2006. "These regular drug-dealing customers waited in line outside Young's Pharmacy in the morning to have their fraudulent prescriptions filled," according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Sentencing is scheduled for April 16. - Nathan Gorenstein
